Prospect Watch: After a rough start to the game, El Paso nearly rallied back thanks to some strong relief work. Glenn Otto threw 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out three. The 28-year-old righty owns a 4.63 ERA in eight appearances since coming off the IL to join El Paso in June. The Texas native is working back from a series of shoulder injuries as he looks to log big league service time for the fourth straight year. … Alek Jacob held OKC hitless over the final 2.1 innings, walking a pair while striking out three and stranding an inherited runner. The 26-year-old Jacob took a little bit of time to shake the rust off from last year’s elbow injury, but has done so in stellar fashion, posting a 2.36 ERA in 19.1 innings over his last 11 appearances. … Leadoff hitter Matthew Batten delivered some pop with his fourth home run of the season. The 29-year-old utility player is slashing .219/.278/.344 in 32 at-bats so far this month. … Clay Dungan got the start at shortstop and went 2-for-3 while smacking a double and scoring a pair of runs. The 28-year-old infielder is batting .243 with a .767 OPS in 280 at-bats for El Paso in the 2024 campaign.

Prospect Watch: Despite getting outhit seven to three, the Missions pulled out an impressive 1-0 win against visiting Amarillo. Jared Kollar delivered yet again, throwing seven shutout innings and striking out five batters to earn his ninth win of the season. Kollar, a 25-year-old Rutgers product, owns a 3.03 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 77.1 innings of work for the Missions in a breakout 2024 season. The 2022 undrafted free agent now ranks fifth in the Texas League in ERA as he continues to rack up ground balls. He’s allowed only three runs over 24.1 innings in his last four starts. … Francis Peña followed and continued a stellar 2024 with two scoreless frames to earn his first save since being promoted from Fort Wayne. A $10,000 signing in 2022, the 23-year-old righty sports a 1.45 ERA with an eye-popping 23:1 strikeout-to-walk rate in 18.2 innings since joining the Missions at the end of May. … Michael De La Cruz led off the seventh with a single before coming around to score the lone run of the game. The veteran De La Cruz, who contributes at catcher as well as in the infield, is batting .190 with a .520 OPS in 153 at-bats in 2024. … After a Robert Perez Jr. single put runners on the corners, Juan Zabala hustled out a fielder’s choice grounder to earn the lone RBI of the game. The 25-year-old catcher is batting .228 with a home run and 12 RBI in 114 at-bats in the 2024 season, the second campaign in San Antonio for the Colombia native.

Prospect Watch: Three TinCaps combined to toss the fourth no-hitter in Fort Wayne franchise history. Henry Baez was perfect through six innings before issuing a leadoff walk on a full count pitch that just missed in the seventh. The 21-year-old righty then got a comebacker, but threw wildly to second base to put runners on the corners. He bounced back to get a double-play ball and then finish off his outing with his 10th groundout of the game. Baez struck out four The as he lowered his ERA to 2.88, good for third in the Midwest League. He leads the circuit with a .201 opponents average and his 76 strikeouts in 72 innings are in the top 10. … Baez was relieved by Will Geerdes, who delivered a perfect eighth inning. The San Antonio native is 2-4 with a 5.35 ERA in 35.1 innings in 2024, his second full season in the Padres organization after joining as an undrafted free agent in the summer of 2022. … Jose Geraldo closed out the game with a perfect frame of his own. The 25-year-old righty has struggled to a 7.77 ERA in 22 innings on the year, but has allowed just one run over his last four outings. … While the pitching dominated, the TinCaps offense was a machine, scoring nine runs on a season-high 18 hits. Every Fort Wayne batter reached safely at least twice in the game. Nick Vogt enjoyed a powerhouse performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and driving in five runs. The 23-year-old UC Santa Barbara product enjoyed his finest month of the season in June, when the outfielder slashed .308/.357/.549 in 91 at-bats for Lake Elsinore to earn a promotion on June 28.

Prospect Watch: In yet another sensational pitching performance in the system, the Storm held Fresno scoreless on just three hits thanks to a trio of solid outings. Ian Koenig threw four one-hit innings in his best outing of the year, striking out five without issuing a walk. The 23-year-old righty is working back from Tommy John surgery last spring. He got lit up in his last two appearances, but has struck out 22 with just six walks in 17.2 innings since rejoining the Storm at the start of June. … The victory went to Will Varmette, who delivered three scoreless innings. The hard-throwing 21-year-old has a 5.67 ERA in 39.2 innings overall this year, but has been solid in a multi-inning role since early May. Over his last 18 outings, he’s pitched to a 3.86 mark. … The game was finished off by two scoreless innings from veteran lefty Daniel Camarena. Camarena, who always carries a soft spot in Padres fans’ hearts, began the year with El Paso before being assigned to the complex in Peoria and now Lake Elsinore after a brief stop at Petco Park to throw batting practice for Xander Bogaerts. … Leo De Vries doubled off the wall in left to continue to make his presence felt for the Storm as the season goes on. The shortstop is slashing .382/.475/.794 in 34 at-bats for Lake Elsinore this month. … Rosman Verdugo followed De Vries’ double by crushing a two-run homer, his ninth of the season. The 19-year-old is slugging .886 this month. … Wyatt Hoffman, fresh off a highlight-reel catch in left field, hit the second triple of his professional career. The 25-year-old utility player is batting .209 with a .640 OPS in 187 at-bats.

Prospect Watch: In a game of solid pitching performances, Langston Burkett stood out with two-plus scoreless innings in which he worked out of an inherited bases-loaded jam. The 19-year-old Santa Cruz native stands 6-foot-6 and is in his first professional season after signing with the Padres last summer. Burkett has struggled with lingering arm soreness since spring training, but has flashed a heavy fastball with good life. Friday was his first inning of more than one inning since early May. … 18-year-old Jimmy Reyes finished things off with a scoreless frame of his own. The Dominican righty is 0-2 with a 6.88 ERA in 17 innings of work in 2024, 5.1 of which have come since coming stateside from the Padres’ complex in his native country. … The lone RBI of the evening belonged to Colton Vincent as the switch-hitter got the start in right field. The 24-year-old is batting .351 with a .902 OPS in 131 at-bats between three levels of ball, seeing action as high as High-A this year. … Diminutive switch-hitter Luis De Leon has three hits on the 2024 season, but the left fielder has two of them in his last four games after singling Friday. 18-year-old posted an .832 OPS last year and was brought over to the complex in early June. He’s struck out 21 times in 45 trips to the plate
